The Coolest Mario World Hack You Will See Today

If you thought that the fun of Super Mario World ended with the game's release on the SNES back in 1991, you were wrong. A community of hackers have kept the game feeling fresh by hacking the original machine code and coming up with new levels, new challenges and even new graphics for the original game. One of the coolest hacks we have ever seen was created by a Japanese ROM hacker named Carol. Entitled 'Brutal Mario', this mod presents the Mushroom Kingdom like you've never seen it before. Mario has become king of the land, but he's been doing a pretty bad job of things and folks want him de-throned!

Carol used a bunch of Assembly-level programming modifications to ad new levels, enemies, and functionality to the game. For example, P-switches no longer behave like you remember them. Now they can stop time, transform enemies, and do other nifty things in levels. Carol even added a bunch of new bosses to the game, which are quite imaginative and take a good amount of skill to beat.

Check out a video of the first level in Brutal Mario being played below:

There is currently no way to buy this modified game in shops. You will need to download the hacked ROM file and play it using an emulator on your PC or other gaming device.
