D3 Publisher today revealed that it will bring a video game based on the upcoming 3D CGI film Despicable Me to the Nintendo Wii and DS systems. Despicable Me is also headed to Sony's PSP and PlayStation 2 systems. It is expected to be a third-person action game much in the tradition of the Ratchet and Clank series. The lack of a current generation launch suggests that this title is mainly aimed at the younger gamers, but it could still be a hit. According to the publisher, Despicable Me: The Game lets players of all ages experience the thrill of being downright despicable as they become Gru, one of the world's greatest supervillains, and plan the biggest heist in history.

In Despicable Me: The Game, players become the mastermind Gru, planning and plotting to build a rocket ship and steal the moon. Players will command an army of tireless, little yellow minions to complete puzzles and missions and use an arsenal of despicable weapons and gadgets such as magnet guns, freeze rays and battle-ready vehicles to vanquish all who stand in their way. Players will fly Gru's aircraft in daring missions against his rival, Vector, and play as Gru or Vector in a variety of multiplayer air combat modes.

Despicable Me: The Game for Wii, PlayStation 2 system and PSP system is under development by Monkey Bar Games, a division of Vicious Cycle Software. The DS version will feature an entirely new storyline and is in development at a different studio.
