Batman To Be Latest Victim of Poor Wii Sales?

Third party publishers have had a difficult time selling traditional action games on Nintendo's Wii. The console seems better suited to first party titles and motion control activities like Wii Fit, which have sold millions of units. Two recent victims of the Wii were EA's Dead Space: Extraction and Sega's Mad World, neither of which sold in the amounts expected by their publishers. Recently, a spokesperson from Capcom lamented that "real gamers have left the Wii'. That makes us wonder whether Warner Brothers latest action game based on the Batman comics, is a good choice for the Wii. Batman: The Brave and the Bold is an action-adventure video game based on the popular animated series, coming exclusively this fall for the Wii and Nintendo DS. Xbox 360 and PS3 owners will undoubtedly feel a pang of jealousy that this promising title is not headed to their machines, but will the Wii audience match their excitement for a new Batman title?

In the game, fans play alongside Batman and many of his allies in the DC Universe to take on dozens of popular villains. Players can choose from iconic characters like Robin, Green Lantern, Blue Beetle, along with drop-in heroes such as Aquaman to help solve puzzles and fight foes.

The game provides maximum replay value to those who own both the Wii and Nintendo DS versions by allowing them to connect the two systems to unlock BAT-MITE as a playable character. Players can control him with the Nintendo DS to wreak havoc or fight alongside the main characters in all levels of the Wii video game.

In Batman: The Brave and the Bold the Video game, players embark on an exciting journey through crime-filled alleys, alien planets, abandoned underground cities and mysterious laboratories. Further lending to the authentic cartoon feel of the game is the inclusion of Batman's iconic gadgets such as Batarangs and his Grapnel Gun.

Warner Brothers says that the game is aimed primarily at young kids and families, but come on: it's Batman. Other action game publishers, previously burned by poor sales on the Wii, will likely be following this release closely.
