The gaming year 2012 is likely to be dominated by none other than Nintendo as they continue to ride the wave of success with their handheld the Nintendo 3DS, and get ready to release their next-generation console, the Wii U.

The Nintendo Wii was a major success for Nintendo, and put them back on top of the gaming world after two mediocre gaming generations, with lackluster sales of both the Nintendo 64 and Nintendo GameCube when compared to the competition.

The Wii allowed Nintendo to regain its throne, and they hope that the Wii U will allow them to maintain the king of the mountain for the years ahead.

2012 is going to be the year of the Nintendo Wii U, first unveiled by Nintendo during their E3 2011 press conference nearly a year ago.

Nintendo brought the Wii U to CES 2012 this year, allowing gamers the chance to take a look at the new console yet again. What they did not do however was unveil new information pertaining to the console.

So the question is, when will Nintendo announce key information such as the price point of the Nintendo Wii U?

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime spoke to Spike during CES, stating, "we will be sharing information throughout the entire year. I won't say you're going to have to wait until E3, but certain't we're not breaking any news here."

It appears Nintendo may announce a launch date and price point prior to E3 based on these words from Reggie himself.

We could certainly see Nintendo holding a media event to announce the Wii U, similar to what Apple does to announce major products, and Microsoft did with the Xbox 360.

This could happen in May, and give Nintendo a jump on the competition who will likely be trying to steal their thunder at E3.
