PopCap Brings Casual Hit Peggle to DS

peggle-icon.jpg

Normally we wouldn't get excited about another casual game release for the Nintendo DS, but there is a special place in our hearts for Peggle, the quirky pachinko game from indie developers PopCap. The company's CEO David Roberts announced today that he has plans to bring the downloadable PC game to the Nintendo DS this winter. The DS cart will contain an "entirely new Peggle experience" and will be priced at $29.99.

Peggle is an addictive blend of Arkanoid and Pachinko, that crazy Japanese parlor game where a ball drops seemingly at random through a field of pegs. Hitting different colored pegs unlocks power-ups like multiball and a wider basket at the bottom of the screen. Skilled players become adept at banking their shots off multiple pegs to reah those hard-to-get targets. The whole package is dipped in vibrant colors and presented with an over-the-top sacharine style. If you haven't already experienced the "fever mode" in Peggle, head over to Pop Cap to download the free PC demo.

This release is just the latest in a series of casual PC game conversions, which include titles like Cooking Mania, Tropix and Meteos. Do you think that the DS is an appropriate platform for these simpler, more causal games, or do you yearn for meatier core titles? Let us know in the GameFlavor message forums!

Things can get pretty crazy in a typical game of Peggle.
