North America Land of the Wii

console-wars.jpg

The next generation console race surges on with NPD Data showing the Wii miles ahead of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3 in North America [via Tech.co.uk].This has been for the fifth month in a row with Nintendo selling 340,000 Wii consoles in May, four times over that of the Playstation 3.

Once again Sony have fallen just short of 100,000 units, with 80,000 sold. No doubt this will change when Sony start releasing more big titles for the PS3 in the foreseeable future. Microsoft on the other hand despite dominating the race with all over sales of 3 million units for the Xbox 360, the trend indicates that things have ground to a halt with May sales hitting 155,000.

The remarkable story of the Sony's PS2 continues with astounding US sales of 187,000, twice as much as the PS3. Sony must be taking note of this phenomenon, and it will be interesting to see what plans they have in store for the PS2.
