Nintendo Ready To Rid Of The Wii, Launch Wii U

Nintendo is clearly getting ready for the launch of their next-generation console, and the successor to the highly-popular Nintendo Wii.

The Nintendo Wii U was first introduced back at E3 2011, and garnered a lot of attention thanks to its very unique input device, a controller that was morphed with a big touch-screen tablet stuck right in the center of it.

This was a very unique way to showcase the new next-generation console, as it showed once again that Nintendo was ready to innovate rather than emulate its competitors and what they were doing.

Lately though, the sales of the Nintendo Wii have begun to plummet showing that possibly Nintendo and its gaming way are losing steam in terms of attracting casual and hardcore gamers alike.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime does not see it that way though, as he is actually pleased with the way the market is going.

Reggie Fils-Aime took part in an interview recently with the Los Angeles Times, stating "The Wii is now approaching 40 million homes here in the United States."

He went on to say that he believes that Nintendo is "beginning to top out in terms of the total number of systems sold."

Nintendo clearly believes that they have hit the ceiling in terms of the success of the Nintendo Wii, and now sees this as the perfect time to launch the Wii U.

The big N has a huge year ahead of it and it will all kick-off in the next few months when they are expected to announce key information regarding the Wii U launch, followed by the big coming out party at E3 2012.

Out with the Wii, in with the Wii U, Nintendo appears ready.
