Nintendo Fall Conference 2008: Should We Care?

nintendo-fall-conference-t.jpg

One of the biggest disappointments for hardcore Nintendo fans this year was the company's less-than-impressive showing at E3. Has Nintendo learned its lesson following the E3 fiasco? The company, historically known for not taking part of the Tokyo Game Show, has decided to put together a show of its own. The Nintendo Fall Conference 2008 will take place in Japan and US on October 3rd and 4th, and supposedly will heal the scars of this year's scary E3 conference.

So far, Nintendo has stated that their fall conference is intended to show off "new products". Whatever they may be, the news about the conference wasn't enough to set the public on fire: blogs and dedicated sites merely noted the dates of the upcoming conference, and even though we are only ten days before the event, speculation by the media have been tracked as low to none.

It’s a justified fear: prior to E3, expectations were set overly high, with hopes of a new Kid Icarus, Mario, Zelda, Metroid or other new IP. The lack of such announcements meant that the actual show was a deadly disappointment, forcing Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata to publically apologize. Nowadays, no one wants to be brokenhearted again, so low expectations are the new hype.

Anyway, our guess is that Nintendo learned its lesson, and will take this chance to make things even with the hardcore gamer. There are some serious game projects already in the works in Japan that only needs a US release date, like Tenchu 4, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Fatal Frame 4 and Sky Crawlers, to name a few. The much commentted new Kid Icarus game might finally show itself (but this may conflict with Factor5, the supposed developer for the game, holding its own conference a few days later) and since Nintendo made it clear that the event is about "new products", maybe we can see some new and exciting IPs for the core gamer.

Or, they can show Wii Music again and call it a day. If that´s the case, I guess Nintendo will see its loyal fanbase drop even more.

We will post news as soon as they come by.
