Majesco's Profits are Cooking with Mama

If I were Cooking Mama publisher Majesco, I'd be smiling too. The mass market gaming publisher posted rising revenues and narrowing losses due to its successful casual games strategy.

With net revenues of $18 million for the fourth quarter, the company basked in a 51% year-on-year rise with an operating loss of only $900K, well under an operating loss of $1.5 million just a year ago.

According to Edge Magazine, "For the full year, Majesco reported $63.9 million in net revenues, a 25% jump compared to a year ago. The publisher also reported an operating income of $1.5 million compared to an operating loss of $3.8 million.

"The performance indicates signs that Majesco's turnaround strategy, initiated 3 years ago, is working. The company ceased the publishing of premium-priced games to focus on budget and casual games in early 2006.

"The Cooking Mama franchise has proven an exceedingly important money-maker for Majesco, having sold over 3.4 million units to date."

Will this mean we can expect a dozen more Cooking Mama sequels? Gamers rejoice! Or maybe even a partnership with Take-Two Interactive for a Carnival Games/Cooking Mama crossover -- Carnival Mamas. Ooh, that's hot! Now where did I leave my Majesco job application?

I just bought a gold stove! Why?... Because I can.
