Dragon Quest 9 DS Gameplay Trailer

Straight out of Jump Festa 2009 comes a brand new Dragon Quest IX trailer. The video to be shown at Square Enix’s annual press event in Tokyo reveals some more bits of gameplay as well as story cutscenes for the very first time. The video also showcases some of the many enemies and bosses that players will encounter during battles in the game.

Looking at the trailer, we can’t help but be impressed with how much Dragon Quest 9 DS looks like Dragon Quest 8 on the PS2. The character sprites look a little bit more hand-drawn this time around, but we actually think this is an attractive look (Check out the animation on the horse at 0:44!). Even though the polygon count may be a bit lower, the game’s environments are bright and colorful, just like the PS2 predecessor.

This is truly going to set new standards for excellence on the DS when it launches in 2009. Check out the full trailer below:
