Nintendo is getting geared up for a huge 2012 as they will be launching the successor to the Nintendo Wii in the Nintendo Wii U.

The Nintendo Wii U was initially unveiled at E3 2011 this past June, to much hype and anticipation among gamers.

The next-generation Nintendo console itself looks very similar in design to the original Nintendo Wii.

The big difference, as was the case when then Wii launches, was that the gaming input has been totally revolutionized yet again.

Nintendo showcased a controller that was more like a tablet than an actual gaming controller.

The controller featured dual-analog sticks and all of the normal buttons, but smack in the middle of it was a rather large touch-screen.

Nintendo showcased the ability to have a dual-screen mode going on with the television and controller working together. It also showed the controller having the ability to play the game without the TV if the channel was changed.

Many gamers though are curious as to what this new console, and the controller, are going to cost.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime shed some light on that in a recent interview with "All Things Digital."

Reggie stated in the interview that the Nintendo Wii U is going to be far more expensive than the Nintendo Wii when it initially launched.

He stated "if I'm the head of a household of a family of four, and my disposable income is $50,000 to $60,000, I'm going to continue to look at the Wii because of the software, and it's a great entertainment device. For consumers who want to have the latest gadgets and have a higher disposable income, that's for the Wii U."

This would make it safe to assume that the Wii, which was priced at $249 when it launched, will likely be topped at launch by the Wii U in price.

The expectation right now is that the Wii U will launch at a price-point of $399 upon launch.
