Sonic 2D Meets HD

It's been years and years since a good Sonic game came out. Now that the anniversary of the Dreamcast is sneaking up, does Sega have what it takes to resurrect a good game out of the Sonic franchise? It appears so. Project Needlemouse may be just what fans have been clamoring for -- a return to simpler white knuckle gameplay of yesteryear, replete in 2D glory.

Sega of America's Ken Balough had this to say, "Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay. Many liked the daytime stages in Unleashed, but wanted to see a game that plays purely similar to the early games of the Genesis. Project Needlemouse is that critical first step that brings Sonic back to his 2D roots."
Finally, a Sega exec who has his ear to the ground. It's not that hard to make Sonic. All we want is speed and fun platforming, all in a shiny HD package.
The game is expected out in 2010, most likely on the 360 and PS3. Sorry Wii. No HD means no Sonic love. Wait, what's that? Do I hear Wii HD? We'll see, we'll see...

By saying "HD" they could be just doing what they did many years ago with the Genesis, and boast "High definition" without having a literal meaning to it.
Lets face it, compared to Sonic Rush and the Advances, one could actually call a 2D Sonic game for Wii "high definition" in graphics.
