New Resident Evil First-Person Shooter for the Wii!
Many fans of the Resident Evil franchise dread the thought of a first-person shooter Resident Evil game, such as Resident Evil: Survivor, which disappointed fans greatly. However, all that may change as Capcom is planning to release a new first-person shooter for the Resident Evil series – Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles which will be released for the Nintendo Wii!
With the use of the Wii’s nunchuk controller, the gamplay seems to be very interesting. I was able to sample a work in progress demo of the game at the Capcom booth during the San Diego Comic-Con . The analog stick directs where the player looks and the Wii mote pointer controls where the player should aim. Like I said, it is still a work in progress as the demo had some slow moving zombies (they should be rushing towards the player) and the Wii mote was not precise with the aiming, but so far, the controls seem to be pretty smooth. If the pointer part of the nunchuk controller is swung, it will resemble a knife on screen, which is a very good feature. Also, the player will be allowed to counter any zombie attack by pressing the button that is shown on the screen when the attack happens, which is also a very helpful and new feature for the gameplay. As for reloading, the player must flick the pointer controller to the side and to change weapons, the player simply presses up or down on the D-Pad. But the most important feature, the “headshot” feature, is in the game. A zombie’s head is shot clean off with just one shot if the pointer is aimed at the right spot of the head. What kind of zombie killing game would it be without that feature!? Despite the kinks, the game does have potential to become successful. The graphics do need some work, but nothing too drastic. They seem to be fine, but since the game is going to be released on the Nintendo Wii, the graphics and gameplay need to be better and push the Wii to its limit.
The set release date for the game is around November 2007. Fans of the series and fans of first person shooting games should definitely check this game out once it hits stores!
